👥 Persona Generation

Build detailed, actionable marketing personas in a few hours that guide strategy, content, and creative direction.

Traditional marketing personas take 1-3 weeks to build properly: customer interviews, CRM data segmentation, synthesis, validation, formalization. Too often, they're produced once then forgotten. AI enables doing this in a few hours with superior quality personas (multi-source synthesis, multiple profiles, easy updates). The trap: producing plausible personas with no real grounding. This guide presents the workflow that combines internal sources (CRM data, interviews) and AI synthesis capabilities to produce truly actionable personas.

Step-by-step Workflow
1
Collect internal sources

Before AI: export CRM data (segmentation, average basket size, frequency), customer interview summaries, customer service feedback, social listening analysis. The richer the raw material, the stronger the personas.

2
Identify distinct segments

Have AI group customers into 3-7 segments based on behaviors, needs, and contexts. Not by pure demographics (which reveal little about actual needs) but by jobs-to-be-done.

3
Detail each persona

For each segment: name and photo (ideation), typical demographics, professional/personal context, jobs-to-be-done, pains, expected gains, purchase journey, preferred channels, barriers, triggers, representative quotes.

4
Validate with real data

Cross-check each persona against your CRM data: does segment size match? Is average basket consistent? If gaps exist, adjust or reject the persona.

5
Activate in briefs

Personas only work if used. Integrate into creative, content, and sales briefs: 'for this campaign, we're targeting Marie, 38, CFO of mid-sized company, who…'. Without activation, it's a dead deliverable.

Frequently asked questions
Are AI-generated personas reliable?

As reliable as the raw material provided. With real CRM data and interviews: very reliable. With just a prompt 'generate a persona for [brand]': generic and probably wrong. Rule: more internal sources, less AI invention.

How many personas should you aim for?

For most B2B SMEs: 3 to 5 personas are enough. Beyond that, you dilute messaging and create operational complexity. For a large multi-product group: 5 to 10 max. If you need more, it probably means your offer is too broad.

Should you create photos for each persona?

Yes for internal activation: a persona with photo + name is remembered and used. Without a face, it stays on paper. Use free image banks (Unsplash, Pexels) or AI generators. Avoid real photos of customers for GDPR reasons.

How often should you update personas?

Annual audit minimum, major update every 2-3 years or at each strategic pivot. With AI and CRM data, annual audit becomes simple and quick (1-2 days vs several weeks in traditional methodology).
